Koko Jazz Club presents the highest quality line ups from both Finland and abroad. The cosy club interior and great performers, have made Koko Jazz Club one of the most important small jazz clubs in Helsinki.
We were there in the delightful company of Nelson Faria who had brought his Trio over from Brazil with Alfredo Paixao on Bass and the intense Rafael Barata on Drums. In a word, superb!!
The evening started with some of Nelsons own compositions, but put three brazilian jazz muso’s in a room full of people, and no doubt a trickle of standards from Gilberto and Jobim will enter the party.
The club was a sell out, rare for a Monday night at any venue, culminating in a packed out jazz club with a wonderfully diverse crowd. Not the biggest of clubs but good little vantage points dotted around the room to make your home in. The club has only around 60 seats, so it is recommended to book tickets in advance. A list of upcoming gigs can be found HERE…
No doubt the club will go from strength to strength as it’s still quite raw at the moment. We intend on supporting this host no end. You’ll become a regular from your first visit as it can be quite intoxicating.
Ultimately, it’s a place that makes you want to come back. This is the only jazz club in Helsinki. That’s our verdict!
- Helsinki finally has a ‘jazz club’
- Atmosphere is polite and accommodating
- Open late
- Good location but you could miss it, so check our map
