Come and experience the cool-but-classy design and intimate atmosphere of Venue 505, one of Sydney’s hidden gems. Hosting hundreds of performances every year to thousands of local fans, it has become a landmark, a very important place in the cultural landscape of Sydney.
Initially an ‘underground’ space in 2004, the 505 jazz club quickly came out from the shadows in 2010, initiating a new exciting project in Sydney. Its philosophy – ‘to focus 100% on quality performance’ – is probably what has been behind its success. The place can be considered a ‘newborn’ but it has already set clear goals: above all, the desire of becoming a stable home, not only for 505 as a club, but also for numerous small arts organisations that have been displaced into theatres, town halls, pubs and churches for a long time. 505 wants to become a a space from which to support the local community of artists, musicians, performers and non-profit projects.
The club located at 280 Cleveland St Surry Hills is not only fighting for a noble cause, but it is focusing on fun by being an entertaining place as well. Presenting hundreds of concerts throughout the year, the 505 has become one of Sydney’s hottest spots. Not many places in the whole world can offer a weekly schedule of 6 concerts filled with live Jazz, Roots, Funk, Gypsy and World, within an intimate atmosphere. The venue’s design makes sure that the listener can enjoy each performance 110%. And if this is not enough, there is also the collaboration with Jazzgroove – an association that wants to present emerging and established Sydney jazz and improvising musicians to a devoted audience – that presents its own thrilling program every Tuesday and a monthly live broadcast by Eastside Radio (on the 2nd Thursday of each month).
Venue 505 is not all about music though. In fact, it also hosts its own 505 Kitchen. Do you want to grab a quick snack or stop by and relax with a good dinner? The 505 team will make sure that you will be full eating a selection of delicious food, without spending too much. Latest addition to the 505 family is the Old 505 Theatre, that in just a bit more than a year has become one of Sydney’s most important independent spaces.
Explosive live jazz, good menus and touchy theatre performances: all good reasons to stop by Sydney’s Venue 505.
