I had an email out of the blue from a young piano player in search of some playing opportunities in London. I went to his website and was enormously impressed by the Malcolm Campbell Trio. On the strength of what I heard I invited them to record at my studio with me and arranged a gig for us at the wonderful new London jazz club, The Hideaway, in Streatham.
Malcolm (piano), Zwe (bass) and Charles are all in their final year at the New England Conservatory in Boston and play with a vibe and maturity way beyond their years. The audience at Hideaway greeted them rapturously, as did the fellow musicians at the Ronnie Scott’s jam session the night before. I don’t think it will be long before their back on UK shores.
